Hotel das Cataratas is the only hotel within the UNESCO World Heritage designated Iguaçu National Park within minutes of the world famous Iguaçu Falls. In order to harmonise the UNESCO World Heritage environmental goals and the natural wonder of this national park Hotel Das Cataratas had to maintain strict environmental policies.
In 2000, Hotel das Cataratas was recognised for its environmental operating policies by becoming the first Eco Resort in South America to obtain ISO 14001 certification. Hotel das Cataratas' main environmental goals were to reduce the use of natural resources and minimise waste. The implementation of these goals took place over 12 months as environmental activities involving employees, suppliers and guests were put into place. Their four main conservation efforts involve garbage collection and recycling, water conservation and electrical energy conservation. The Hotel continues to be proactive with new initiatives and is constantly striving to reduce their environmental footprint on their beautiful natural surroundings.
The Hotel's home, Iguaçu National Park, supports hundreds of plants and animals. To ensure this habitat's continued survival only 0.3% of the parkland is open to visitors, which you can visit during your stay at Hotel das Cataratas.
