Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
In an effort to conserve energy Hotel Del Rey installed movement sensors attached to the lights in the corridors. This ensures limited to no energy wastage because the lights are only activated when someone is present and the lights can no be forgotten to be turned off. Sectors of the hotel are powered by solar energy, an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional power.
In their continued efforts the hotel and its staff work with guests to improve environment outcomes. Small, everyday measures are taken to be environmentally friendly, many of these actions are easily transferable into travellers daily lives. For example, all guests receive woven, re-usable, supermarket bags which they are encouraged to use instead of plastic bags thereby reducing plastic waste. These bags are a free gift from the hotel and with this bag and the environmental advocacy that is disseminated with it Hotel Del Rey hopes that travellers will continue to re-use the bags in the lives back at home.
